Could a steam mop hurt scratched hardwood floors?
I would like to get a steam mop for my house. I have hardwood floors that are really scratched. I have tried Murphy’s oil and several other hardwood products, but the dirt just seems to keep collecting in the scratches. I know the best thing to do is get it refinished, but I am renting and the owners are not worried about the floor. So I was wondering if a steam mop could get the dirt out. Since the floor is scratched, I would hate for the water to hurt the floor. Any suggestions would help thank you.
if the scratches are deep the water from the steam will eventually make those scratches turn black and more noticeable , aside from using Murphy oil you could apply a coat of paste wax on this floor and polish it ,run a damp cloth over it to remove dust and spots. I have a steam mop and I like it but I wouldn’t use it on a scratched floor.
I will give you an old fashion tip that my mother use to do , in a pail put the Murphy soap and warm water ,go down on your knees and with the use of a scrub brush work in a circular motion making sure that the dirt comes out of the floor , rinse it and dried it with an old towel , it is a lot of elbow grease but at the end you will be pleased with the results then wax and polish . Rental or not you are the one living in it so if you are clean it’s for your own good. Keep the windows open and listen to music to go with the beat!
